Sunny Days...

A few of last years crops...
...and the start of a new round in the 'growing veggies' saga...to grow or not grow? That is the question here right now...where we live is about to be hit with a hosepipe ban...so from April 5th we are limited to watering cans, buckets, bathwater, kitchen water and any rain that happens to fall...which after last year, is likely to be around July and August!!

Last year I started my very first veggie plot...and it was great, we had some nice homegrown veggies, that really did taste better than supermarket ones!! We want to do it again, but can we??
Of course we can!!! Where there's a will there is most definitely a way!! So today I went out a purchased a water butt... I swept the leaves off the bottom patch of our garden, tidied up a bit... and set the water butt up...you never know, we may get rain...

After that I stood and looked at my poor neglected veggie patch...I had surgery last September, and as a result wasn't allowed to do any heavy stuff for almost 10 weeks...which meant that part of garden was a wee bit neglected...and to be honest, once I was up and fit to go..I didn't really feel like it!!! BUT NOW I DO!!!! YAY!!!! Especially after the weekend visit from Cath and her family...we pottered in my garden, looking at stuff, poking around and discussing what could be...and decided that I should in the words of that famous philosopher Nike... "just do it". So I am...

So with that in mind I weeded, dug over and then raked the patch..and now it is looking much happier...bare, but happy...

You can see both of my mini plots here...the two of them are big enough for us right now, especially with the drought at the moment!!!

This plot has the 'bean tower' and the chimney pot and upturned pot are shielding my very tender rhubarb at the moment...

You can also see the spring onions right at the front of the plot...they were planted last autumn, and have been left and neglected, but are now doing quite well...
...and on this side there is already an apple tree, so not sure how well things will do here this year, as the tree roots take quite a bit of the water!!! We shall have to wait and see...after all, if you don't try these things, you may never know!

After school, I even had a bit of child labour help to rake it all a bit more...the finer the tilth, the better it is...

...of course because one got to have a go, so did the other!!
Look how well those spring onions are doing...will be able to pick some soon...

...Lovely young rhubarb shoots coming through....

...This will be their second season, so am hoping to be able to harvest this year!!! I just love rhubarb crumble...

Hidden amongst the bluebells under the apple tree were these...Garlic shoots, from cloves I planted last year 'on the off chance they might grow' and guess what...they are!!!

So this is the start of a new chapter on the Sew Appetising Blog...hopefully later on I can post some recipes that will include my home grown veggies!!!

But for now, isn't Spring just the best season ever!!
