British Bloggers in Support of British Flowers...
Remember last week I mentioned this campaign started by Vanessa over at her blog Goddess on a Budget?
Well I've joined the campaign, and my free seeds came today from Thompson and Morgan...
I got sent 2 variaties of Sweet Pea...
Anniversary...
...and Sweet Dreams...
...and Cosmos Sweet Sixteen
How pretty are they?
The idea is to grow our own posy of flowers, rather than buying imported flowers from the shops and supermarkets...I can't wait to get mine planted...in fact my sweet pea seeds are soaking as I type...(Did you know they had to be soaked before planting? I didn't!! Apparently the seeds sometimes have a very hard coat, and by soaking you can aid germination...) Anyway, mine will be sown tomorrow...and you will have to wait and keep a-watching to see how they grow...xx

The Garden Chronicles...Part 1
...I figured it was probably a good idea to call this series of garden and growing based posts by a title that will link them all...so welcome to "The Garden Chronicles"...
A week has past since my last garden update...and with all the rain we've been having, a few little seeds have already sprouted in the veggie patch!! (when I say little, I really do mean little...the pictures were taken with a rather large zoom!!)

This is a Little Gem Lettuce coming up... |
A bit blurry, but a French Breakfast Radish... |
A Globe Radish shoot... |
Small they may be, but signs of new life in the garden are always encouraging...and the seeds (or rather seedlings now) in the mini greenhouse on the patio are going great guns...there has been a lot of growing going on in there!!
Alex's Squash (Butternut) and Red Onions are doing well...these are both a first for us...
...as are his Cucumbers...as I said last week, the Cucumbers we planted last year failed to even e germinate...so let's see how we do with the two that are growing now...
...hi little Lupin has started it's second lot of leaves growing now...
...and a few more of his Runner Beans have sprouted away over the past week...
...four of the five Tomatoes we planted are growing now...They are Alicante...a medium sized one...we want to grow some of the berry sized ones too...so I better buy some soon...
Emily's Lupin is pushing through a second set of leaves too...
...and four of the five new variety of Courgette (Astia F1) are growing, and need potting on very soon...
...her Runner Beans (the seeds form our crop ast year) are doing much better than the ones form the packet!!
...and the Mange Tout have nine out of ten growing (the ninth is very tiny and can't really be seen here)...
...another newbie for us, Aubergine...we have a teeny tiny little shoot just starting...fingers crossed it grows well...as we love aubergines!!
So all in all a good week in the garden and greenhouse...next jobs on the "to do" list will be potting on the seedlings and preparing the beds for the tomatoes and cucumbers...keep watching and reading...

Sprouting Seeds...
...and sowing more out in the veggie patch...
Alex and I have been out in the garden today...we actually managed to get out there in between the rain showers...so armed with "The Plan" we set about marking the rows, sowing 6 lots of seeds and watering them in...of course this is only one half of the veggie patch, and there are gaps on this side waiting for seedlings to get bigger and stronger before being planted out...but for now we have Spring Onions (already out there and growing), Rhubarb (coming along nicely thank you), rocket, two types of radish (globe and French Breakfast), Little Gem Lettuce, Rainbow Chard and Beetroot...
"The Plan" and the seeds...spot the deliberate mistake... |
