Fish for Good Friday...

...We're trying out the Lemon Sole with Brown Shrimp Butter tonight, from Lisa Faulkner's Book...this is now the 5th recipe to be tested...and hopefully it will be 5 for 5...It seems a pretty straightforward recipe...although it is a fish I have never cooked before...so I was a wee bit nervous!!

Escaping to the Sunny Side...

in terms of food at least...this horrible weather we are having needs something to perk it up a bit so that's why I made some...Chicken, Chorizo and Prawn Paella...

A Paella is a Spanish dish, from the Valencia Region...I guess you might say it's the Spanish equivalent of a risotto...but as I am neither Spanish or Itallian, I wouldn't want to offend either...so let's just say there are three main types of Paella, Valencian, Spanish and mixed...

Easter Treats #3...Kids in the Kitchen...

...this is the easiest of all Easter treats...the ubiquitous Easter Nests...and just look how great those guys look in their stripy little cases!!!

...We did mix it up a bit though...you know what we're like in the Sew Appetising House!!!

Gumbo...

...Gumbo is a very old dish, (a soupy stew) originally from Southern Louisiana in the 18th Century...there are many variations, but they all have a few things in common...

Easter Treats #2...

...Chocolate Whirls...this is another recipe taken from my 500 Cookies Book...This one was my choice...the smallish people have chosen a different recipe to make later this week for their Easter Treat...

Number 4 and the final one...this is a two for one deal...a Mixed Mushroom one and a Courgette and corn one....Both are full of fresh flavours and super simple to make!

Mexican Madness #3...Green Rice

...This is another side dish that we'd tried at Wahaca itself...there they serve it in small earthenware pots that look really great next to the Refried Beans and Guacamole...and it's another dish that I've been meaning to make for ages!!! So I'm really pleased to say I have now done just that!!! It takes a wee bit of preparation at the start, but nothing too taxing...

Easter Treats...#1

...Carrot Cake...(With a tweak!!)

This is a 'twisty tweak' on the classic Carrot Cake recipes that are out there...There are hundreds of variations around, so I have basically taken all the bits we like and tried them out in one easy 'Muffinesque' recipe...

Mexican Madness #2...A Simple Guacamole...

As you know from the earlier post, this Friday's menu theme was Mexican Madness...
...So to start what else could I make but Guacamole and tortilla chips...

Sowing the seeds of love...

...So whilst the black beans were cooking for their 2 hour marathon...the smallish people found some time to get sowing the some of the seeds for our mini veg patch...

Mexican Madness #1...Frijoles Refritos...

So the theme for this weekends culinary delights was Mexican...

...and the five recipes I made were taken from Tomasina Miers' book 'Mexican Food Made Simple'...
