The Garden Chronicles...Part 2

There has been a fair bit of growing going on in the garden and mini greenhouse this last week...but I am a bit worried that all the rain we have been getting is water logging some of the seeds sown directly into the soil, and potentially rotting them!! I guess time will tell...

So what have I been up to garden-wise? Well the first job that needed doing was to pot-on all the seedlings that had outgrown the seed cells...there were quite a few...
I used these mushroom crates last year as a handy way to keep my smaller pots together in the mini greenhouse, they are just the right size!!
...and I have a spare one that is ready for the last lot of seedlings later on...
...a bit sad, but out of the 10 lupins we planted only 2 germinated, may pop a few more into the greenhouse later this week...see how they do...
...these ones are doing really well, a few more leaves and they can be let loose on the garden!!
...we have some healthy courgette plants coming on well...
...our first ever cucumbers...second set of leaves growing now...they need to be a bit stronger to go outside...and the weather needs to get a bit warmer too!!
...butternut squash...also growing next sets of leaves...
Alex's first two tomato plants...tiny but growing strong!! There are more growing in the greenhouse as well...
Eight out of our ten mange tout have done well, I actually planted 4 more seeds this afternoon...that way we get a little staggering of crops...and we love our mange tout!!
...the largest two courgettes...that makes five out of five plants this year...we grew eight last year and swapped some with neighbours for other veggie crops...but as we are trying more things out this year we had to cut down our numbers...our patch is small after all...
...and we have about eight healthy runner bean plants...which is just the right number for my obelisk, two for each corner!
...once potted-on and watered I carefully returned them to the safety of the mini greenhouse, away from the recent hail storms, rain storms and winds we have been having...
...meanwhile in the mini greenhouse...a lone squash still growing away alongside some red onions...
...and five more tomato plants!! Hope we get some sun this Summer!!!
...Our first ever aubergines...three out of three germinated and are now growing well...
...and then we get to the veggie patch itself...the rocket...
Both types of radish, Globe on the right, French Breakfast to the left...
 ...little gem lettuces...
...and then my poor water logged, soggy beetroot...a few shoots appearing...
...and even more soggy rainbow chard...wish our soil had less clay in it...
However, I did manage to harvest a couple of spring onions to go in my salad at lunchtime today...and they were bigger and most definitely better than the ones in the supermarket!!!
...and then I noticed the chilli seeds we planted in the house...two shoots in the one pot, and there is the stirrings of a teeny tiny shoot in the other...
...and finally a new addition to our growing ventures this Spring...
Two avocado stones, suspended above jars of water as directed by this website here...we will see what happens, my Mum grew a rather large avocado plant when I was younger...so now Emily and Alex are having a go at it...

Well that's it as far as the Gardening Chronicles go this week...let's hope for a slightly drier week ahead...and more growing going on...

    1. Thanks Alida, am hoping they will grow well this year...the cucumbers and aubergines may prove a wee bit tricky, but we will give them a go!
