My first sewing project ever...

My sister in-law runs her own fabric website...M is for make and it was this and a trip to see her and her family last Easter that set my rather rusty sewing cogs moving again!
I ended up coming home with some beautiful fabric and lots of good intentions to use it along with my Christmas present from a good few years ago now (a sewing machine that sits in my cupboard!!) to create some cushions for my daughter's bedroom...needless to say said cushions are still (as yet) unmade, but are now a great deal closer to coming into this world!

I have however, made a couple of cute little owl friends as gifts for my 2 smallish people...

Meet "Fire Owl" and  "Twit" (not my names I must add...)

Twit twoo...

They were really rather simple to make...I used some wonderful fabric from M is for make along with some scraps of felt and buttons...and after looking at various owl designs online I drew my own template to use.

The first one (Fire Owl) was meant to be a project for my 10yr old daughter to work on with my help...but as she got bored fairly quickly, it became my job to finish! Admittedly she did sew the eye circles to each other using a simple running stitch.

Of course, not to be outdone by his sister, my son decided he too wanted a soft squishy owl, and chose his fabrics...also from M is for make . A third owl has already flown the nest, and now lives with my sister in Melbourne, Australia.

Now that I have made something, albeit small squishy owls! I have been bitten by the crafty sewing bug...and want to do more, and more importantly, learn more...so armed with my Christmas present of  Patch! I have started to make the bag that comes with it...
