Dusting off the Bread Machine!

The weekend away at friends has inspired me to get the bread machine out of the cupboard...Whilst there the smallish people had home made pizzas, using the bread machine to make the bases...and they loved them (even with the hidden wholemeal and flax seed mix!!)...

...so, after replacing the very out of date ingredients in my cupboard and armed with my old and battered recipe booklet that came with the machine, and inspiration from my friend Cath, I set about tweaking the basic pizza dough recipe.

It ended up being...

200g Strong White Bread Flour
100g Wholemeal Bread Flour
½ tsp Yeast
½ Tbsp Sugar
15g Butter
1 Tbsp Milk Powder
1 tsp salt
210ml Water
3 Tbsp Linseed mix (I used Virginia Harvest Gold Milled Flax Seed)

Once the dough was ready, I used some semolina flour to knead it on and also lined 2 20cm cake pans with cake release and extra semolina flour (it gives a nice crispy base that way.

The 2 smallish people decorated the pizzas themselves (not the prettiest of pizzas) and waited rather impatiently for them to cook

...which took about 20 mins in a preheated oven 220oc/Gas 7.

At the end of tea time, there was 1 small piece of pizza left! Even the fussy 10 year old who won't go near bread with any amount of non-white flour in ate every bit!!

Within 10 minutes or so of finishing eating my son asked if I could make some rolls for his lunchbox...which I did!!

That smell of just cooked bread is so addictive, it makes me want to bake and bake and bake...

The rolls were "really yummy mummy" and "can you make some more for next week?"

Am now thinking of redesigning kitchen worktop space to accomodate the bread machine on a more permanent basis...well at least for now...  :-)

  1. I've just found a "pasta and pizza flour" by Wessex Mill, based in Oxfordshire but fairly widely available I think - £2.65 for 1.5kg. It's a mixture of wheat flour and durum semolina according to the packet and made great pizzas last night!

    1. Cool, will have a look around...with the ones I made on Monday this week I used polenta in the pans...they came out just like the ones from well known pizza chains!!
