All things BRIGHT and Bundt-iful...

I decided to brighten up the rather grey days we've been having lately, by experimenting with the new Wilton food colouring gels I got a little while ago...I was going to make these wonderful rainbow cookies, but time was of the essence, so I decided on a creation of my own...well, a 'tweak' at least!!! (the cookies will have to wait a couple of weeks)...Seeing as my two smallish people love bundt cakes now, I decided to 'tweak' Nigella's Spruced-Up Vanilla Cake once more..(I do believe it is becoming a new family favourite...)
After making the original cake batter recipe, I split the mix into 6 bowls...
...then the fun started!! Into the 6 bowls went some of the fantastic gel colourings...
The cake was built up by layering each of the colours on top of the last...I started with the red, so that it will hopefully look like a rainbow when we cut into it...
 ...orange and yellow...
 ...green...
 ...blue...
...and finally purple...indigo wasn't on my agenda!! Too dark, I want to brighten things up...
Even the empty bowls make for a pretty picture!
Finally it comes out of the oven...
...and is turned out to cool...
The big question is to frost or not to frost..? Am thinking just a dusting of icing sugar will suffice...after all, the sponge itself is moist, tasty and really needs no frosting...But as this will become a lunchbox bake, I should ask the two smallish people when they get in from school...
The verdict was a snowfall of icing sugar only...
...and 2 slices got snapped up straight away...
I'm just loving the way the swirls are looking like a psychedelic tie-dye t-shirt!! Maybe we should call it Tie-Dye Bundt instead of Rainbow Bundt!!! Also love the way the swirls show how the heat has made the red rise up as it has baked...you can really see the heat pattern...so, it may not look like a rainbow, but it certainly brightened up the day!!! Oh and by the way...it looks like I used a ton of colouring, but with the gels you need the smalest amount to colour the batter...and I mean smallest...for these colours I used about 3 toothpick dips of gel for each!!!
And look what was left of the slice above...I had to take a photo as I thought the rainbow coloured crumbs looked so cute!!! It is definitely one I will make again!
