Now that the pillow mat is finished I have a sewing gap in my life...although as I mentioned before I need a new cover for my sewing machine...but Emily (the 10 year old female smallish person) has a different idea! After visiting her cousins last weekend and seeing this...I was asked if I can make one for her...now I am going to start slowly (remember I am still wearing those L-plates on my sewing machine!) and have cheated by buying got a couple of charm packs from Moda, the lovely fresh colours from Kate Spain in her 'Good Fortune' series of fabrics...Emily 'helped' me lay them all out the other day to design her quilt...the results are below...
After spending almost 30mins getting a layout sorted (It is surprisingly difficult to get the randomality just right)...this is what Em has decided looks good, so that is how it will be...Let's hope I dont reverse this one by accident like the pillow mat!! As you may be able to see (although they are small) there are scraps of numbered pieces of paper down the side, that is to help keep the order pf squares and rows...
Once the order was decided, and photographed, not just for the blog, but for my memory!! I stacked and pinned the squares in each row...pinned the number on top, and am now ready to sew them together...
There's quite a few squares there (84 to be precise!)...but I am up for the challenge...!!! The finished quilt will also have side, top and bottom strips to surround the charm squares, wadding and of course backing fabric, that we have yet to source...But have no fear you will be updated regularly...
