Crafty Little Mother's Day Card...

...Em came home from Guides on Monday with a Mother's Day card for me...Hubby tried to get her to hide it until Sunday, but she wanted to give it to me there and then...I think she was really rather proud of it, and because of that I want to share it with you...
...that and the fact that I think it is a really cute, simple idea and there's time for you guys to make one yourself, help someone make one or point someone at this post if you fancy getting one yourself...

The whole thing is really quite simple to make...
what you will need is:

*2 sachets of coffee (please remember before berating me about it being Starbucks, that I didn't choose these...they came from Guides!!) of course you could also use individually wrapped teabags too...
*Some 'nice' card to make your mug/cup shaped card...more about that in a bit..
*scraps of felt - make sure you have some green for leaves!
*4 pipe cleaners
* sequins/shiny bits and bobs to decorate card
*12 buttons in 3 sizes (4 of each size) (or more felt scraps if no buttons)

Here are the component parts laid out for you to see...How easy is this going to be...the steps below are as told to me by my 10 year old...but they made sense to me, so they should be ok for you guys too...and there are only 6 steps to make it!!!
So, step 1:, using the felt scraps, cut out 7-8 flower shapes...you will need to draw them a scrap of paper first to make yourselves a pattern, and if you look at the  pictures below, you will see that 4 of them are the same shape! Don't want to make it too tricky, especially if you're doing this with little ones...
Step 2: Taking one each of the 3 sizes of buttons you need to sew the petals together using the buttons as the center of each flower (using bright threads that compliment the colour felt you've chosen adds to the effect)...If using felt circles instead, just layer them up and using a cross stitch, sew to the petals...
Step 3: Sew the flowers to the stems (ie the pipe cleaners)...you can see from the pictures above that the girls at Guides just over sewed to hold them firm...
Step 4: Time to cut out 4 sets of leaves...sew them together in pairs and attach 2 pairs to each pair of pipe cleaners...so that the 4 pipe cleaner flowers have now become 2 pairs of flowers with leaves at their bases...(I hope that makes sense!! If not look at the picture above step 1 again!!!)

Step 5: The card has a double layered front, so to make it you need to draw a cup shape that you're happy with on a scrap piece of card (such as an old cereal box) This is your template...fold your 'nice' card in half and place the template with the handle on the fold (making sure you have the fold and handle on the left!!)...draw around and cut out...if you've done it correctly, you now have a cup shaped card...To make the pocket for the flowers and coffee/teabags to go in, you just have to cut another single cup shape out of the 'nice' card and stick (carefully) to the inside of your card front...
Step 6: Decorate the front of the card...make it pretty for Mum...Em used glittery pre-cut circles...but wrapping paper, more felt scraps, glitter, sequins or just colouring pens/crayons would all be great...Write the card, and then fill the pocket with your pretty flowers and the drink that your Mum will prefer...
Pretty as a picture...and heaps nicer than a bought one...home made is the way to go...
